Sell specialty raw materials to personal care and home care formulators across Nairobi and the wider region, and help them choose the right material for what they are making.
The role
What you would be doing
The work
Cerium supplies the raw materials behind personal care and home care products made across Kenya. This role is the person a formulator talks to before they order: understanding what they are building, knowing what in the catalogue fits it, and being honest when nothing does.
The role is broad. You would be talking to customers, visiting them, keeping the catalogue knowledge current, and feeding back what the market is asking for.
What you would be doing
- Handling enquiries from formulators and procurement teams
- Visiting customers and understanding what they are formulating
- Recommending materials from the Cerium catalogue, and saying so when we do not stock what they need
- Preparing quotations and following them through
- Keeping records of customers and enquiries accurate
- Feeding back what customers are asking for that we do not yet supply
What we are looking for
- A background in chemistry, chemical engineering, cosmetic science or a related field, or equivalent experience in the trade
- Comfort talking about technical material with people who know it better than you do
- Clear written English, because much of this happens over email and WhatsApp
- A driving licence, and willingness to travel around Nairobi and occasionally further
If you have formulated before, that is an advantage rather than a requirement. What matters more is that you are genuinely interested in what customers are making.
